I’m Maggie – a speech-language pathologist by day and avid horror-movie watcher by night…. just so long as the movie is old and not at all scary. I got my start watching classic Universal monster movies and 1950s sci-fi horror B-movies on Svengoolie every Saturday night as a kid. Svengoolie wasn’t just a habit – it was a ritual, an event I became compelled to participate in at the same time week after week. And this ritual instilled in me a profound love for these films and the people who made them.
As an adult I find myself drawn to these films more than ever. My sweet and shy tuxedo cat, Arthur, is my movie buddy, but unfortunately he’s not often impressed by what we watch together. In fact, he was absolutely terrified by Night of the Living Dead the last time we watched it (I now croon “They’re coming to get you, Barbara” whenever he’s scratching the couch). And admittedly, Arthur is not the best conversationalist. So I started this blog to find human movie buddies who have interesting things to say about these wonderful pieces of horror history.
If any of the movies I talk about here bring back waves of nostalgia, I’d love to hear all about it. If you know some interesting facts about the movies and people I write about, please spill the beans immediately. And if any of these movies are unfamiliar, I hope that these blogs might convince you to give them a watch.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you’ll stick around for a while!
Maggie
